St Mary's Seminary
Following the first years of initial formation, including Pre-Novitiate and Novitiate, our students, as vowed members of the community, live and study together at St Mary's Seminary, Camberwell. Here they live a dedicated life of prayer, community and mission, whilst studying to obtain their degrees in Philosophy and Theology if they are called to ordination to the priesthood.
Prayer
The Seminary community follows a life of prayer that grounds our growing vocations on a loving relationship with Jesus Christ. We pray the Divine Office of the Church, practice silent meditation before the Blessed Sacrament and celebrate Eucharist together as well as other spiritual practices including the Rosary and Lectio Divina.
Community
The Oblate life is one based very solidly on community and therefore the Seminary life prospers community activity amongst the brothers in formation and their formators. Community allows us to share our lives and work and support one another in their vocation as a Missionary Oblate of Mary Immaculate.
mission
In order to prepare the students for the mission ahead, a variety of mission experiences are provided for them throughout their formation. These include an allocated ministry throughout the academic year, as well as mission trips and experiences throughout the vacation period.
study
Brothers studying for priestly ordination are required to have tertiary qualifications in both philosophy and theology. In addition to the 'in-house' formation, the seminarians also undertake their studies at the Catholic Theological College. More information about their academic program can be found at the link below.
